What’s happening in web3

Jack Dorsey announced Web5: “an extra decentralized web platform”. For those wondering, the “Web5” label is a dig at “Web3”. It has many similarities with Web3 but proposes a different design using Bitcoin. I wrote a thread on it below.

The Ethereum merge is coming. On 8 June 2022, the team completed the merge of the Ropsten network. This is an important step in Ethereum’s move to a proof-of-stake network.

Optimism engaged Wintermute, a market maker, to facilitate an airdrop. They sent approximately $15 million of tokens to an address but later discovered that it was an Ethereum address and not compatible with Optimism. In the meantime, a hacker accessed the address and stole the $15 million.
