Diversity in Web3, the Odyssey bootcamp and the best Web3 reads
Good morning 💫
Welcome! This week we’re hosting events to talk about inclusivity and education in Web3. As always, we’ve summarised the best threads and reads from Web3.
What’s happening in Odyssey
This week we hosted a space to talk about Gen Z’s looking to start a career in Web3, and how the OdysseyDAO Bootcamp can help. The recording is available here.
Next week, we have two great events lined up:
Inclusivity for Women in STEAM & Web3 (Tuesday, 5 April 2:30 PM PST): We will discuss Trailblaze Tribe’s mission of bringing more females into STEAM/Web3 careers, and Odyssey’s bootcamp registration to help onboard talent into Web3.
Let’s talk Web3 education (Friday, 8 April 7 AM PST): We’ll be talking about Web3 Education, OdysseyDAO’s Bootcamp and Wander Women DAO’s Crypto Education Series. Register for the event here.
What’s happening in web3
Elon Musk tweeted asking if Twitter adheres to free speech principles, and if a new platform was needed. Crypto Twitter quickly jumped in to suggest a decentralised version of Twitter.
Axie Infinity’s Ronin network was compromised and $625 million was stolen. It’s the biggest hack in crypto history. I wrote a one pager on how the exploit happened. People are surprised by how long it took for the team to discover the steal, and that they only had 9 validator nodes running.
Polygon announced a self-sovereign identity solution powered by zero knowledge cryptography.
Here’s an excellent thread from Mirror.xyz’s Patrick Rivera on the state of DAO tooling.
Solana NFTs are coming to Opensea in April.
The European Union passed a ruling on crypto this week. It requires exchanges to KYC customers (i.e. collect information about them) for all transactions worth €1,000 or more.
LooksRare, the NFT marketplace, is the first of its kind to allow buyers and sellers of NFTs to communicate with each other using their wallets alone.
The Biden administration is considering taxing unrealised gains. This has pretty big implications for all financial assets but particularly crypto. Here’s a thread from the founder of Figma explaining why this is a bad idea.
Terra has bought over a $1 billion worth of Bitcoin. The founder spoke about his strategy for doing so in a video.
As always, join our community to check out more events, contribute to a project, and stay up to date. Until next week!
